Hope for Masturbators: A Young Christian Man’s Address

There is a mirage of comfort in knowing a problem you face is, common. It Masturbation, it’s a war on manliness. From experience of personal struggles and talking to a number of teenagers and young adult; I know this is a reason for concern and the statistics isn’t in anyway encouraging. For most, we have an opinion for or against the subject. However, underlying we ask – “…how can something that feels so good, awkwardly seem bad?” We would all agree it a major challenge faced with by most. I hope this help address a major issue faced by men and in new light women.

The first step towards progress is to want to progress – the williness. However, in a world where it about doing it yourself (DIY), and have tried a couple of techniques only to realize – “The arm of flesh will fail”. Most of the self-improvement techniques you might try would help you for some day(s), month(s) and even year(s), but starvation of pleasure is not the most sustainable route. If indeed there is any element of hope it’s for greater pleasure. I would challenge you to seek greater pleasure, not in more masturbation or porn, but in Christ and His call to manliness. Essentially, masturbation should teaches us to depend more on God.

In no way, would I tell you a new list of rules, probably you might have already come across a number. Not abstinence from some type of food, staying warm etc… These become a tone of rules to be guided by and rules are never nice to follow. In fact, rules become the reason to lapse and when you lower your guard you fall again. Some talk on the use of the power of your mind, this is neither helpful until true help is found. But, I reckon in modern time that due diligence should be exercise in being cautious with the use of media and smart devices (phones). However, it is a heart problem and wouldn’t stop when you start having sex in marriage either. This calls for the need to think of the opposite sex in an honorable manner.

This is a call to be responsible in manhood especially if you seek to be engaged to a woman of value, of which you will need to love and honour her. So, we need to “Man Up”. More importantly as men we will need to pray. Prayer works and it is the medium of our reliance on God. It shows you trust God to help you in this fight. I have being challenge to pray as Daniel did and as men our calling is to lead our wife and children, how will you do this? What I’m saying is that you cannot help yourself, you need God. This is a call to manliness in saying good bye to masturbation.

We are all in this together and to win this battle we need the help of others. This is war on manliness and in war you don’t fight alone. Isolation will make it worse and even kill you. Habits can’t be starved, it either they are fueled or a greater pleasure found. As I write this I’m reminded that even as long as I have abstain, it had not being at the best of my effort and more day by day I reckon my need for God. I recommend you do the same, even when it not easy, of which you would need to make a resolve in your heart to please God and I pray He helps you and me.

It as a toddler that walk we would fall but we trust God to help us to the end. And, when I fall I pick myself up again solely with the help of God through Jesus Christ. Remember the story of David. He was that youth who killed the Lion and Bear in secret it was with that victory he challenged the Philistine, Goliath. Remember, every day you win is progress, which you should believe God more. I know I have won today now, that in itself is victory and for me it definitely not today Satan. Every young man must be taught to Man Up. We keep the fight. A call to responsibility. No today Satan, until we can achieve this, “Never again Satan”.
